The 2004 American Business Awards have been handed out, and a familiar search engine has received one of the more prestigious awards. AskJeeves.com was awarded the “Stevie” for Best Business Turnaround, beating out companies like Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Covad Communications, My Family.com and Aerco International.

Nicknamed the Stevies for the Greek word “crowned,” the awards were presented during ceremonies at the Sheraton New York Hotel & Towers in New York City on Monday, May 10th. Steve Berkowitz, Ask Jeeves President and CEO, who accepted the Stevie on behalf of Ask Jeeves, said:

“We are honored to be recognized by the American Business Awards for turning the Company around. We are now the 7th largest property on the Web with more than 39 million users. This award is a testament to both Ask Jeeves’ achievement in the highly competitive and rapidly growing search engine market, and to our dedicated employees who are the reason for the turnaround. Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners.”

Award winners are determined by members of the Awards’ Board of Distinguished Judges & Advisors and their staffs.

Board members included Rich Karlgaard, publisher of Forbes, Bruce Nelson, chairman & CEO of Office Depot, marketing gurus Don Peppers and Martha Rogers, author and business guru Tom Peters, Anthony Robbins, Chairman & CEO of The Anthony Robbins Companies, Drew Schutte, publisher of Wired Magazine, Jeffrey Tarr, president of Hoover’s Inc., and Donald Trump, chairman, president and CEO of The Trump Organization.
