Crawford House Collectibles Review – Appearance is Important

There are 2 main kinds of websites. One is a sales site and the other is an information site. The key to selling products online is knowing that a good portion of your visitors are not coming to buy stuff but rather coming to get information. So by providing them information for free and linking it with your products, you will probably see a better bottom line.

At first glance, your default.asp page does not show the traits or even the layout of a professional sales site. Users expect the logo to be in the top left corner, they expect the navigation to be either in the top border or the extreme left. Check out sites like Amazon.com or overstock.com. These are businesses that have mastered the art of selling online. They know what works and what doesn’t, so why not just follow them? That’s why it is so important that you pay careful attention to every aspect of your website development. If customers don’t stick around to buy what you have to offer because your website loads at a snail’s pace or because it’s too cluttered or hard to read, you surely will not get a second chance.

I particularly don’t like the light blue jacquard background. If you’re a sales site, stick to a white or a light colored background, it is more professional, and your pictures can easily blend with the background. Your color combination on your main page is to much. You use white, red and blue all in a light blue background.. Might want to consider changing that to something a little more simpler like blue on white.

What are you selling? It took me 3 steps to actually see a picture of your products. Your sales copy would have to be brilliant to entice your users to go through 3 links to see your products. I suggest putting some of your best selling products on your home page. Make a “Top Selling This Month” or “Best Buy”. This way your visitors know exactly what line of merchandise you are selling without having the need to go through 3 links to get there. Why are you making it difficult for them, you have worked hard enough to get them to your site, so give them everything on a silver platter and they will stick around a little longer.

Expand your default page, remember this is the most important page on your website, this is the entry point and your must convince your users to follow through. Feed them information that they want to know about, show them products that they want to see, why should they have to go searching for it. I am confident enough to say that you will close more sales if you expanded your home page by displaying some of your products in your default.asp

Give your visitors are much information as you possibly can. Why? Because taking the time to educate the consumer, you are building credibility. You are presenting yourself as a expert in your field, someone who is knowledgeable and trustworthy! And once your visitors trust you, they will buy from you!

Your text color on the products page is not legible at all on that light blue background. Change the font color or change the background itself. When I click on a product, what happens to the navigation? It disappears, make use of shared borders, it will make it easier for your users to navigate. Most importantly, do yourself a favour and put your logo on every page so I know which company I am buying from.

I tried to add Item 31416 but “This product is not available at this time.” The one thing that visitors hate the most is sites that make them go through all these steps for nothing. Rest assured your will not see these visitors again. If a product is not available, I am sure you could use your asp database driven site to say “Out Of Stock” or don’t show the product at all if “Unitsinstock < 1” I couldn’t find any products that had inventory so am unable to comment on your shopping cart system.

I also noticed when a user clicks on “search” and if their products are not found — the page is completely blank. Why not take advantage of your database and include some products on that page. I.E ” Sorry your search did not find any results , but how about these items ” Something to that effect, you never know what a visitor might be interested in. Again Use shared borders, put a logo and get some navigation on all your pages.

Your Product selection is vast, and pictures are good, most of them are with a white background and will go better if your pages had a white background. I am sure you will get lots of good suggestions in this review and if you make these few simple changes and market your site a bit, you will surely see your sales increase.

P.S. Put some testimonials on your main page of good comments from previews purchases, this will put more confidence in the consumer when they visit you site

Good Luck!
