Choosing a Site that Sells

Often times when we embark on web business we talk about “getting a web site.”

Good idea. It’s tough to do business online without one!

What most people fail to realize, however, is there are many types of sites, depending on the products or services offered. All too often I look at the sites new students or clients have and realize they have spent a great deal of time (and often money) for a site that will never sell their product.

Here is a brief run-down of the eight types of sites so you can make sure YOUR site is appropriate for your product and target audience.

*The SINGLE PRODUCT Site*

This is a site which sells only one product or service. My site at All-In-One-Business.com is an example. A site which sells multiple products only one at a time would also fit this profile. This site would consist of a main sales letter and supporting pages.

*The SINGLE SERVICE Site*

Similar to the single product site except this site features a service. Again, the main page would be a sales letter featuring the single service and would be supported by other pages–About Us, Testimonials, etc.

*The STORE Site*

The Store site has a landing page featuring several products of interest or specials, navigation to various products or product categories. Again, supporting pages will also be a part of the site.

*The AFFILIATE Site*

This is the most commonly mis-understood site.

When the goal of a site is to generate affiliate commissions the main page needs to be designed to provide HIGH QUALITY UNIQUE CONTENT that has an appeal to those who are target prospects for the affiliate product. It should not be a sales letter. Effective affiliate sites will also do a great job of capturing email addresses from visitors for an eZine.

*The MLM/Networker Opportunity Site*

This one often confuses those new to Multi-Level Marketing (MLM). There are two types of sites associated with MLM: A site that sells products and a site that sells the business opportunity.

The opportunity site will often be a single sales letter site with supporting pages.

*The MLM/Networker Product Site for a Single Product*

This site works virtually identically to the single product site.

*The MLM/Networker Multi-Product Site*

This site works virtually identically to the store site.

*The SUBSCRIPTION Site*

The subscription site have a brief description on the landing page along with a link to a “tour.” The most effective subscription sites will also have a free trial or a reduced price trial.

Before you jump in to build or promote a site, take a couple minutes to make sure your site will accomplish the purpose you have for it.
