Success Stories: Dave Adamczyk, FlamingBaseball.com

Share

Dave Adamczyk and his son Tyler are both avid athletes. Dave went to college on a football scholarship and has been a fan every since. Tyler is a professional baseball player, pitching for the St. Louis Cardinal’s AAA team the Johnson City Cardinals.

So a site named “FlamingBaseball.com” just made sense.

Starting out as a hobby, the site made over $145,000 in sales its first year. Dave expects that to double that number this year.

Dave accomplished this feat by marketing high-end products to the elite athlete. That unique market niche gave him a higher profit margin and resulted in a sale for every 75 or so unique visitors. A good record.

Here are some of the principles that make Dave’s site a success:

1. He picked a market niche.

Patterning his plan after Sharper Image, he chose to offer only the best goods through his site. Sure they cost more, but the customer loyalty he developed keeps his customers coming back for more.

2. He offers great guarantees.

His wood bat carries an unheard of 30 day guarantee. His specialty glove a TEN YEAR guarantee. When people do business with Dave, they feel he is standing behind the quality of his products.

3. He offers a value-heavy newsletter.

He puts out a newsletter each month with insider articles for elite athletes and coaches. It typically has two articles and one advertisement. This keeps his customers coming back for more while building his expert reputation.

4. He has a well-designed site.

Rather than build a site with lots of pages, he put together a site that is based on a one-page design. It increases the site’s functionality while making it easy for his users to access.

5. He has a business plan–and follows it.

Make no mistake about it, Dave’s success was no accident. He put together a business plan that he follows religiously.

6. He uses paid advertising.

Overture, Findwhat, Google AdWords are all sources of good traffic for him.

7. He automates whatever he can.

He uses a special software program to automate all of his routine order fulfillment and email chores.
