Google Taking TV Ads Online

Share

Google is reportedly readying a service that will allow advertisers to distribute ads across not only television through Google TV Ads, but through YouTube as well. According to the Wall Street Journal, the service is called Google TV Ads Online, and will be launched within the next several months.

WSJ’s Jessica E. Vascellaro reports that Google is currently testing the service with a small group of advertisers and that it leverages Google TV’s targeting technology. If you’re unfamiliar with Google TV Ads, here’s a short video on that:

“The company is hoping that the new service will make it easier for bigger brand advertisers to spend across both services, which are under pressure to ramp up their business despite the sour economy,” she says.

Murdok contacted Google to find out more and has so far only received the company’s official statement on the matter from a company spokesperson:

“We are currently testing a feature of Google TV Ads that would let you place commercials into the ad breaks of online videos. This is a part of our ongoing commitment to help Google TV advertisers connect with users across multiple video platforms, including YouTube, the world’s largest online video community.”

In other Google/TV/Advertising related news, the company shared results from a study that indicate paid search advertising has a direct affect on tv viewing. More on that here.
