What You Got In Your Drawers?

So, by now you’ve heard you’re supposed to be incorporating social media into your marketing campaign. How exactly you do that they’re not so clear on. And while the possibilities really are endless, sometimes we need a case study in how it’s done to get the creative marketing juices flowing.

Submitted for your consideration is BlueCotton, a custom shirt-printing company in Bowling Green, Ky. BlueCotton just launched a new campaign from its Facebook page called “What’s in Your T-Shirt Drawer?” The question, posed to fans of the company asks them to post descriptions or pictures of favorite, sentimental old t-shirts they’ve held onto over the years.

They even have a nice survey that says four out of five Americans have at least one old shirt in their dresser they just won’t get rid of. Vacation t-shirts were the most popular, but concert, pro and college sports, and charity tees were also keepers. BlueCotton is hoping to get a good number of submissions from 1,000 online fans.

The company also has a Twitter account, but instead of mundane daily observations, they post links to pics of the latest custom shirts they’ve created. That’s social media marketing done in a creative, charming, and unintrusive way. Sure beats the heck out link or tweet spam, anyway.

Obviously BlueCotton tailors to a local customer base—especially, judging from the pics, to the local Hilltopper Greek community at Western Kentucky University—but judging by a nicely done website and creative, targeted use of the social media channels available to them, they’re looking to aggressively grow their business in a weak economy.
