Google Wants to Make the World a Better Place

Google has always had the policy of not doing evil. This is a policy that critics of the company love to cite when they don’t approve of something Google’s up to. It goes without saying though, that Google’s 10th anniversary project, titled “Project 10100” or “10 to the 100th” is definitely the opposite of evil.

The project is a contest in which the winner gets the prize of helping people all over the world. “We’re looking for ideas that help as many people as possible, in any way, and we’re committing the funding to launch them,” says Google. They’re committing $10 million to them, to be more precise.

Here’s how it works: You submit your idea of how to help as many people in the world as possible. Google will then select 100 of the best ideas, those will be voted on publicly to determine 20 semi-finalists, which will then be whittled down to 5 finalists. The $10 million will apparently be spread across these 5 projects. This sounds like a good thing for humanity to me. Categories under which your ideas can be submitted include:

How evil is Google now? They’re a huge corporation that is going to invest a nice chunk of money into making the world a better place, not only that, they’re leaving how to do that up to us. Yes, it is true that not everything the search and technology giant does is quite so angelic, but you can’t knock them for this one.
