Flickr Gives Developers A Friendly Nudge

There’s a bit of a conceptual gap between code and pretty pictures, so we wouldn’t have guessed that there would be a lot of overlap between the developer and photographer crowds.  Still, Flickr’s going to see how many people it can serve with a new developer website and blog.

 New code.flickr Site

Called code.flickr and the DevBlog, respectively, the sites are designed to provide “information, gossip and discussion with the Flickr developer community.”  So far, they are not – unlike many new sites – ghost towns.  Highlighted posts are instead spaced about an hour or so apart on average.

More involvement seems likely as time goes by.  On the original Flickr Blog, Kellan Elliott-McCrea encourages participation by writing, “If you’ve ever had a wish for the Uploadr to work a certain way, include some particular feature, or just work better, you’ll want to check out Richard’s meaty blog post ‘Flickr Uploadr, start to now’, checkout the code from SVN, join the Uploadr Group, and start hacking!”

Another popular topic appears to be getting Flickr to work with the iPod and iPhone.

Meanwhile, for Flickr fans more interested in food than code, we’ll note that the “day of the donut” was celebrated yesterday.  And we won’t tell if you decide to hold a sort of redo this afternoon.
