Orange is a huge communications corporation. Research In Motion is a top wireless device company. And now Kristof Fahy has moved on from those places of business to Yahoo Europe, where he’ll serve as vice president of marketing.
Remember the Robocop movie in which employees of Omni Consumer Products employees routinely jump out of windows and shoot themselves? How would you like to work for such a company? Well, Fahy’s situation isn’t quite that strange, but Yahoo Europe is facing widespread layoffs, so the arrangement seems rather odd.
Perhaps Fahy was offered some sort of assurance, or just has enough confidence in himself and his new coworkers that getting laid off isn’t a concern. In any event, he’s right in the middle of things now.
“We are excited to have someone of his calibre and experience joining the Yahoo team as we transform the company to being customer centric in everything we do,” said Toby Coppel, Yahoo Europe’s managing director, in an interview with Mark Sweney.
With what seems like more top-level employees leaving Yahoo every week, we’ll just hope, for Fahy’s sake, that the transformation doesn’t come too close to his door.
