AdSense Debuts Video Pilot

Publishers will soon be able to define at what point in online videos their streaming AdSense ads will appear. Most will have to wait a little longer, however, as Google is testing the program in a closed pilot.

With the new offering, publishers not only can choose when their ads play, but also can choose which videos they appear in.

AdSense Product Marketing Manager Christine Lee (not to be confused with Bob and Tom’s Kristi Lee) says Google will be gathering information through the pilot to gain a better understanding of what works best in video ads.

The company cites challenges publishers face while trying to monetize their content through video inventory, and building a beneficial relationship with users as the driving force behind the offering.

This new announcement comes on the heels of two other video offerings. AdSense already offers Click-to-Play video ads for any publisher opted into image ads that want to try their hand at video.

In January, AdSense debuted its video distribution and sponsorship service pilot that allows publishers to choose short-form video clips bundled with ads for display on their websites.
