Valentines Day, Grammys Top Weekly Zeitgeist

Searchers looking for last minute gifts for the special someone, researching the origins of Valentine’s Day, and music enthusiasts soaking in the coverage from this year’s Grammy awards comprised the majority of Google queries last week.

Senior Airman Michelle Manheart also came in with a strong showing backed by the momentum of her public dispute with the Air Force concerning the nude photo spread she did for Playboy. The new came to light in January of this year, which led to her demotion and eventual resignation from service.

Canine aficionados also took to the search waves last week as the annual Westminster Dog Show saw terriers, poodles, and every other conceivable breed you could imagine strut their stuff for the judges and the spectators.

The Grammys, however, had the most impact on last week’s search landscape, as queries for the ceremony itself, the reforming of The Police, and the press surrounding the Dixie Chicks, winners of multiple awards, burned up Google’s search index.

Showing that the console wars are still going strong, searchers are still rounding up as much information as they can about Sony’s thus far unimpressive Playstation 3 and Nintendo’s wildly popular Wii system.

Unfortunately for Sony, it looks like the Zeitgeist is the only place that the Playstation 3 is outperforming the Wii right now.

There are other topics that made Google’s top 10 searches last week, so I won’t ruin the fun for those of you who want to research the “peanut butter recall” on your own.

So, without further adieu, here’s the top ten list in its entirety of Google search queries for the week ending February 17, 2007:

1. Valentine’s Day
2. Michelle Manheart
3. Grammys
4. Peanut Butter Recall
5. Dixie Chicks
6. Obama
7. Westminster Dog Show
8. The Police
9. PS3
10. Wii
