AOL Poll: Heroes And Villains

Not many times in American politics or history do you have a person on both a hero’s list and a villain’s list. In a new poll from the Associated Press and America Online News President George W. Bush is top of the list for being both a hero and a villain in 2006.

When asked to name the years biggest hero 13 percent of Americans polled said Bush. When asked to name the years biggest villain 25 percent responded by naming President Bush.

When it is broken down along party lines Democrats where more in agreement with calling Bush a villain. 43 percent of the Democrats called him the villain of the year while 27 percent of Republicans called him a hero of the year.

Runners up to Bush in the hero category were the troops in Iraq with 6 percent, Jesus Christ, Barack Obama, and Oprah Winfrey all with 3 percent. Other notables thought of as heroes were Warren Buffett, George Clooney, Bill Gates, Al Gore, Billy Graham, Angelina Jolie, Colin Powell, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Condoleeza Rice all receiving 1 percent of the vote.

When it came to the year’s biggest villains besides President Bush, Osama Bin Laden received 8 percent of the vote followed by Saddam Hussein with 6 percent and President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran with 5 percent.

Americans were more untied when it came to naming the best celebrity role model for 2006. 29 percent said Oprah Winfrey was the best celebrity role model followed by Michael J. Fox with 23 percent.

The worst celebrity role model of the year was Brittany Spears with 29 percent in agreement. She really earned it. Paris Hilton was second with 18 percent but there is still plenty of time to take the lead in 2007.
