Yahoo has updated its TV site design section of their search engine for the first time in five years. They hope to compete with the new ways of watching television online. Other online sites have also made changes in the last year in an effort to capture more viewers in the competitive video market.
One new addition to Yahoo TV is an embedded video player. The new player allows users to browse the page while the video plays simultaneously. Another feature is a menu with links to popular TV programs. The site also features a collection of videos related to various topics.
Today’s featured videos were an interview with Anna Nicole Smith, Mo’Nique and on the set of NCIS.
For October Yahoo TV visits had increased by 25 percent. The number of users was 7.5 million up 1.5 million from a year ago according to Nielsen Ratings. Yahoo TV still lags behind YouTube, which is owned by Google the company’s biggest search rival.
The improved look of Yahoo TV may increase traffic to their site. They will still face an uphill battle when it comes to competing with YouTube in the online video realm. Also Google’s third quarter profit nearly doubled and their stock recently reached the $500 mark. While Yahoo’s profit fell 38 percent in the third quarter.
