Watch out Yahoo and I mean ” Watch, View, Entertain, Brand”. Google not only bought 100 Million video views a day but they just bought something they were lacking, entertainment value and what comes along with that … youth. Youth is a great demographic, money, money, money.
Of course everybody uses Google for search, but who uses Google for entertainment and recreation? You won’t catch my kid using gmail or searching Google unless she’s doing her homework (she knows the value of a good search). On the weekend for her it’s MySpace, AIM, Yahoo, and downloading some tunes to her iPod or buying a new ringtone or watching a video on YouTube that one of her friends said you just have to see.
Maybe Yahoo’s search is not as good but they had one big advantage over Google, their site is much more entertaining. I (on occassion) like to play a little Word Racer over at Yahoo. Of course I have to view a couple of gigantic ads. It all about page views and serving up ads at Yahoo – nothing is easy over there… But there are still more unique visitors to Yahoo than Google because of the entertainment value. It’s worth the hoops!
The YouTube buy opens up a door way where Google has failed. That is a funny word to use when your talking about Google.. I knew I should of married Sergey or was it Larry!
I say the big G will be serving up some billion dollar branding to go with the views. Say hello Coke, Pepsi, Nike, McDonalds,…. After all, brands spend money where the entertainment eyeballs are looking!
