PureVideo Joins Video Search Options

PureVideo Networks brought out their next product after StupidVideo.com and GrindTV.com by launching a metasearch site for videos.

The beta launch of PureVideo search boasts of crawl-based accuracy and feed-based timeliness in finding video content from hundreds of sites online. PureVideo also provides quick links to the top ten videos on an assortment of sites like YouTube, MySpace, and others.

“We quickly learned that users would devour and create more video content than any one site could categorize or publish,” said Greg Morrow, President and Co-founder of PureVideo Networks.

The site presents several categories for querying atop its search box. Clicking a category like Music or Sports brings up a page displaying top 10 videos from an assortment of sites. Visitors can search for others from the search box as desired.

It is a little lacking based on a quick test I did this morning. I expected searches for “New York Mets” and “New York Yankees” to bring back something useful, especially after a delightful weekend where the Mets advanced while the Yankees dragged their $200 million payroll back to the Bronx where a paltry dozen fans and about as many cops waited to greet them.

(Yes I am very happy about this. Call it media bias if you will. Go Mets!)

Instead, I got one result for the Mets and a few for the Yankees, none of which even the most generous person could call timely. Compared to the very current results seen at AOL’s SearchVideo, the video search engine formerly known as Truveo, PureVideo entirely deserves the beta label.

PureVideo does a nice job aggregating what is current from several sites. It’s almost like a PopURLs for video in that respect. There is plenty of work left for the developers to do on the search side, it appears.
