With all of the acquisitions Oracle has done over the past twelve plus months, this year’s Oracle Open World Conference is certain to set new records in both attendance and presentations.
I’ve heard rumors that San Francisco can expect around 40,000 Oracle aficionados to descend upon the Bay Area later this month. The magnitude of the event became apparent to me as I attempted to book hotel accommodations.
Unless I want to lose some serious weight this October, I’ll have to rely on the Oracle supplied transportation as my hotel is 15 miles from the Moscone Convention Center. The only hotels available within walking distance were well into $400 per night – something the expense account won’t tolerate (thanks iExpenses!). The moral of the story: If you haven’t booked your accommodation, you should do so soon and bring your walking shoes.
Now that I’ve got a place to hang my hat, I’ll need to sort out my schedule for attending sessions. Fortunately, Oracle has provided a handy Session Builder which allows attendees to build, modify, print, email, and even export your schedule to a PDA.
This year’s conference boasts over 1,400 sessions across four distinct tracks including Applications, Technology, Solutions, and Industries. The difficulty I’m having right now is trying to figure out how to be in multiple places at the same time.
Given my background and interest in both Oracle Technology and Oracle Applications, there are moments when I’ll need to flip a coin to determine which session to attend when conflicts arise. If only I could develop a cloning script for myself.

Much like the hotels, the sessions are filling up fast, so be sure to compile your Open World agenda via the schedule builder as soon as possible to ensure you have a seat.
